Aiyo!
Why do we have to watch
M. Butterfly to study
intertextuality? No doubt that the movie has it profound meaning; I found myself feeling emotional upon discovering what happen to the protagonist in the end. I understand the interrelation of M. Butterfly the opera (at the beginning of the movie), the title, and at the end, when the protagonist don the role of Madam Butterfly himself. So yeah, intertextuality. Also, the notion of othering; us/them, western/orient, oppressor/oppressed, etc. discourses. I get it.
BUT WHY THIS MOVIE LAAAH?
Why can't they have picked a more enjoyable, no, a more
appropriate movie?!
Singin' in The Rain wasn't so bad. I love it! And we understood what we have to learn just fine.
Guess what I learn today from
M. Butterfly?
Apparently you can get pregnant from just doing Oral and Anal.
TSK!! I know right? guuuuhh! X(
However, the best part of the movie is, discovering how traumatized the boys were. Haha! and finding out that someone had the pleasure of reenacting some scene to them..
Bangang HAHAAHAHAHA!!
Now, I am contemplating on re-watching
The Thing. 80s production or not, Horror films are still horrific no matter which era they come from *shudders*. Even with not-yet-awesome visual effects of past eras
Psycho was bad enough for me..and to think that they were playing it safe by not going beyond the norm of the then social convention! So, I'm thinking of taking my chances of not re-watching
The Thing for my revision. I'll just try to remember whatever I need from my first watch..
I had nightmares of Holocaust. I don't think I want anything from
The Thing.
:(
p/s: Baby, its all about the connotations and denotations. Remember?
